Co-CIO Francis Gannon joined Andrew Bell on BNN Bloomberg’s The Open to talk about the factors that can keep small-cap on top. Francis discussed how earnings are helping small-caps to lead the market and how they’ve outperformed large-caps off the 4/8/25 market low.

Small caps outperformed the S&P 500 in Q1 2026 – BNN Bloomberg.

Francis also observed that, while a lot of attention is paid to the fact that more than 40% of the companies in the Russell 2000 Index have no earnings, it might be more useful to know that more than 1,000 companies in the small-cap index are profitable—and are arguably under-owned.

In addition, he noted that earnings and other quality factors are helping small-caps to stay on top so far in 2026, a trend he thinks can continue.
